Mrs. Janet Tekyi began training in Hairdressing inn 1962 at the London Institute & Morris School of Hair Dressing, UK. She graduated successfully in 1963 with Diploma in Hair dressing. From 1963-1964 she traveled to Freetown, Sierra Leone where she worked for a year at the Dior Salon. She later acquired some skills on how to handle African hair during a short stay in Monrovia, Liberia.

From 1964 – 1974 she opened and operated a salon of her own in Kumasi. During that period she traveled to Beirut- Lebanon, en route to London in 1966 where she stayed for 2 weeks taking a refresher course in hairdressing. While there, she took the opportunity to visit various hairdressing salons mainly to acquaint herself with their techniques and style of hairdressing.

Her trip to London at the time was also to take a refresher course at the London institute & Morris School of Hairdressing after which she became a member of the Hairdressing World Federation then. She also acquired a special training in Wella Hair coloring technique. In 1974, she moved down from Kumasi to Accra. While she had not gotten a place for her salon in Accra, she worked with Johnny Salon for 2 years until ownership changed and she left.
She thereafter worked for another 2 years at Joseph Salon which was one of the top salons in Accra at that time. In fact, all the salons she worked with in the various countries were top

Salons in Africa and her clientele were mainly diplomats. In 1979, Janet’s Beauty Salon was reopened in Accra. It catered for clients of all nationalities and also for both ladies and gentlemen. In the same year, as a pioneer of the Ghana Hairdressers and Beauticians Association, she played the role of an executive member.

In 1983 Mrs. Janet Tekyi was in Cotonou, Benin to open a salon for a national of that country at the 5-Star Sheraton Hotel. She worked there till 1985. She acquired more skills in handling hairs of different nationalities especially European and African hairs for both ladies and gentlemen. Finally in 1992 Janet’s Beauty Salon was moved to the plush 4-Star Golden Tulip hotel in Accra. It has since operated by the grace of God for the past 17 years.
The salon, currently undergoing staff appraisal has a strength of 10; comprising 4 hairdressers, 3 barbers and 3 apprentices catering for clients from every corner of the globe. It is open everyday.

In her 44 years of working in this profession, Mrs. Janet Tekyi has had the privilege of doing the hair of very important personalities such as Madam Fatia Nkrumah, the wife of the first president of Ghana. Also the wife of the President of Gambia when she visited Ghana some few years ago. She even did the hair of the princess of Netherlands Princess Maxine when she and her husband were in Ghana in 2002. Not forgetting also the acclaimed talented musician Stevie Wonder who was also in Ghana some few years ago.

Madam Theresa Kuffuor, the first lady of Ghana has been Janet’s client since the late 60’s. She calls on Janet whenever the occasion arises and she is always proud to help the first lady look pretty to whatever occasion she is invited to.
She also had the pleasure of doing many of Mrs. Ruth Botsio’s ‘POMPIDOS’ which she used to wear many years back and still wears even on her 80th Birthday in 2007.

We have been in Alisa hotel since 7th March,2009 and have opened a second branch at Tang Palace Hotel located in Roman Ridge.
